Mannarasala Sree Nagaraja Temple in Alappuzha, Kerala, is a prominent pilgrimage site dedicated to the Serpent God, Nagaraja. The temple is unique for being led by a female priest known as Mannarasala Amma.

Legends say the temple's origin connects with Lord Parasurama, who sought the
blessings of Nagaraja to purify the land of Kerala. Pleased with the devotion of
a Brahmin’s wife, Nagaraja was reborn as her child—a five-hooded serpent. The
serpent son later vanished into the Illom’s sacred cellar, initiating rituals
conducted by women of the family. Rituals continue today under the guidance of
Mannarasala Amma.
Devotees believe the turmeric powder from the temple has divine healing power.
Many women seeking fertility blessings visit the temple with faith in Nagaraja’s
grace. The main deity is considered a blend of Lord Shiva's energy and Lord
Vishnu's form. Consorts Sarpa Yakshi and Naga Yakshi are also worshipped at the
temple.
Ayilyam festival during Thulam month (September–October) is the temple's grand
annual celebration. All serpent idols from the temple and grove are taken in
procession to the ancestral Illom. Mannarasala Amma carries the idol of Nagaraja
during the rituals. Traditional offerings like Noorum Palum and Uruli Kamazhthal
mark the spiritual significance of the event.
